FAQs

When does the contest begin and end?

The contest begins on June 5, 2009 at midnight Eastern Time, USA and ends September 8th, 2009 at midnight Eastern Time, USA. All entries, digital or mailed, must be received by September 8th, 2009.

How do I submit my photograph?

You may submit your entry digitally or by mail. An entry consists of one digital photograph, digitized transparency submitted digitally at 72 DPI with approximately 8 x 10 inches in its long dimension, submitted online.

Prints may be sent by mail, accompanied by the image on CD, to:

Submitted prints will not be returned. An entry form must accompany all entries.

Is there a limit to the number of photos that I can enter?

Yes, each entrant, regardless of method of entry, may submit only one photograph.

How many prize-winners will there be?

5 in total: 2 from the US & Canada; 3 from the rest of the world.

What are the prizes?

Prizes can be viewed here.

When will the winners be announced?

Winners will be contacted by late September 2009. The winning photographs will be posted online by December 2009 and will also appear in National Geographic and National Geographic Kids magazines in December 2009 issues. Winners may also be featured in a National Geographic Channel 30" or 60" TV vignette that will be aired in November and December 2009.

Why do my parents need to enter for me?

This is a Legal issue - we need to ensure that we safeguard your privacy.

Do I need release forms for people in my photo?

If they are recognizable and especially children, you will need to provide a release form on request.

Can photographs be cropped?

Yes.

Can photographs be manipulated or enhanced?

No.

What is the resolution required for my photograph?

Files submitted for uploading must not be larger than 1,024 (1Mb). However, you will need to have higher resolution available, 300dpi and 5 x 7 inches, to be eligible to win.

Can I enter a photograph that I entered in another contest?

Yes, but only if it was not awarded any prize and if it is not currently being considered in another contest.

What about rights for my photograph?

You retain your rights to the photograph however; by entering the contest Airbus and National Geographic have the right to publish your photo online, on air or in print for advertising and promotional purposes.

Why can't I enter digitally from the US and Canada?

Due to legal restrictions we unfortunately cannot accept online submissions from the US and Canada.

Can I enter this contest if either of my parents are employed by Airbus?

Yes you can. Please have your mother or father login using the Airbus login code that they have been provided.
